Japan took the lead in the 29th minute through a goal by Kaishu Sano, and maintained it until the end of the first half, neutralizing Brazilian attacks.

The second half of the game began with renewed energy. Brazil fought back in the second half and found an equalizer in the 56th minute through a goal by Casemiro. Both teams continued their attacks to score more goals, but every attack was defended well by the opponents. The match entered the last minute of stoppage time when Brazil scored the winning goal.
