Spain defeated Austria 3–0, while Switzerland beat Algeria 2–0 to reach the Round of 16. It was an easy game for Spain. They controlled the match well and created a great number of goal attempts. Spain scored their first goal in the 36th minute through Mikel OYARZABAL while Pedro PORRO doubled the lead in the 66th minute of the game. The third goal was scored again by Mikel OYARZABAL in the 89th minute.

The match between Switzerland and Algeria was sensational. Switzerland took an early lead in the 10th minute of the game through Breel EMBOLO. Algeria poured all their energy into equalizing, but failed and the first half ended 1–0. In the first minute of the second half, Switzerland doubled their lead through Dan NDOYE. What a start for Switzerland in the second half. They maintained it until the end of the game.
