Belgium defeated the USA 4-1 on Monday to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Despite a controversial decision by FIFA to lift Folarin Balogun’s suspension, the USMNT bowed out in the Round of 16 in front of a home crowd in Seattle.

Belgium played a highly experienced, attacking game. They took an early lead in the 9th minute through Charles DE KETELAERE. The goal turned the game into an aggressive mode. While the USA managed to equalize in the 31st minute through Malik TILLMAN, Charles DE KETELAERE scored again just two minutes later and restored Belgium’s lead.

The teams went into the break at 2-1.

In the second half, when the USA was looking for an equalizer, a goalkeeper mistake doubled Belgium’s lead. Hans VANAKEN scored the third goal for Belgium in the 57th minute. Team USA struggled for a comeback, making moves, but there was no way. Meanwhile, Romelu LUKAKU scored the fourth goal for Belgium in stoppage time, and the USA was out.
